Your information, explained plainly
Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information Further From Home uses when you explore family holiday ideas, why it is used, who may receive it and the choices you have.
Last updated: 7 September 20261. Who is responsible for your information?
Further From Home, based in Ireland, is responsible for the personal data described in this policy (the data controller).
For privacy questions or to exercise your rights, email hello@furtherfromhome.ie.
2. Information used by the service
Holiday-search information
When you run a search, the service uses the information you enter, such as:
- your departure location, travel dates and trip length;
- your total travel budget;
- the number of adults and children travelling; and
- the children’s ages.
Please do not enter names, health information or other sensitive personal details into the holiday-search fields.
Messages you send
If you email Further From Home, the message, your email address and any information you choose to include will be used to respond to you.
Technical information
When the website is hosted online, standard technical logs may record information such as an IP address, browser type, requested page, date and time, and error or security events. This information supports delivery, reliability and security.
Privacy-first product analytics
The site also counts a limited set of product events, such as whether a search completed or failed, which destination cards were shown, when a trip is opened or saved, and when an enabled flight or accommodation partner button is clicked.
The analytics collector does not store IP addresses, user-agent strings, referrers, cookie IDs, account IDs or children’s ages. Budget information is reduced to a broad range rather than storing the exact figure for analytics purposes.
3. Why the information is used
- To provide holiday suggestions: the search inputs are used to rank four destination ideas and estimate how they fit the family, dates and budget.
- To check flight options: the relevant trip and passenger-age information is sent to the connected flight-search provider to request current fare information.
- To improve the service: aggregate product events help show which destinations and features are useful and whether customers reach partner links.
- To answer messages: contact details and message contents are used to reply to enquiries.
- To keep the service secure and reliable: technical information may be used to diagnose errors, prevent misuse and protect the service.
- To meet legal obligations: information may be processed where Irish or EU law requires it.
The legal bases relied on are taking steps at your request to provide the service, Further From Home’s legitimate interests in operating, measuring and securing a useful travel-discovery website, and compliance with legal obligations where applicable. These interests are not used to make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
4. How recommendations work
The service automatically compares the budget, party, dates and trip length with destination and price information to produce four ranked travel ideas. This is planning guidance only. It does not determine eligibility for a service, create a booking, take a payment or produce a legal or similarly significant decision.
5. Who may receive information?
- Flight-search provider: Duffel receives the trip details needed to request flight offers, including route, dates and passenger age categories.
- Website and technical providers: hosting, security and infrastructure providers may process limited technical data to operate the website and retain ordinary service logs.
- Email provider: if you contact Further From Home, the email service processes that communication.
- Authorities or professional advisers: information may be shared where reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect rights or handle a legal claim.
Live accommodation is not currently connected. If accommodation or booking partners are added, this policy will be updated where their processing changes what is described here.
6. How long information is kept
Further From Home does not currently create customer accounts or save holiday searches to a customer database. Search information is used to return results and may remain temporarily in ordinary server or provider logs.
Privacy-first analytics events are written to ordinary service logs and kept only for the period those logs are retained for service operation and measurement. Convenience counters inside the running web process reset when the service restarts or the worker is recycled.
Technical logs are kept only for as long as reasonably needed for security, troubleshooting and service operation. Emails are kept for as long as needed to answer the enquiry, maintain an appropriate business record or deal with a legal issue. Information is then deleted or anonymised when it is no longer needed.
7. International data transfers
Some technical or travel-service providers may process information outside the European Economic Area. Where data-protection law requires it, appropriate safeguards must be used, such as an adequacy decision or approved contractual protections. You may contact Further From Home for more information about relevant safeguards.
8. Families and children
The service is designed for a parent, guardian or other adult organising family travel. Children should not submit searches or contact Further From Home on their own. The search uses children’s ages only to improve family suitability and passenger pricing; it does not ask for their names, email addresses or account details. Children’s ages are not included in the product-analytics events.
9. Cookies, local storage and analytics
Further From Home does not currently add advertising or analytics cookies. The Saved Trips feature uses local browser storage on your own device to remember the trips you choose to save.
The product-analytics collector is first-party and does not set or read an analytics cookie, create a visitor ID or use cross-site tracking. It records only the limited event information described above.
The Cookie Notice explains the current browser storage and how to clear it. The policy and website controls will be reviewed before optional advertising, remarketing or third-party tracking technologies are introduced.
10. Your data-protection rights
Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights to:
- ask whether personal data about you is being processed and request a copy;
- correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
- request deletion or restriction of processing;
- object to processing based on legitimate interests;
- receive certain information in a portable format; and
- withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.
To make a request, email hello@furtherfromhome.ie. Further From Home may need enough information to confirm your identity and locate the relevant data.
You can also complain to Ireland’s Data Protection Commission at dataprotection.ie.
11. Changes to this policy
This policy will be updated when the service changes, including before customer accounts, payments, advertising or materially different tracking technologies are introduced. The latest version will appear on this page with a revised update date.
