The vivid hillside village is a wonderful visual connection to Luca. Enjoy viewpoints, snacks and photos; the rocky harbour is not a guaranteed safe swimming beach.
Gelato, pasta, sunshine and colourful fishing villages. Visit the real Cinque Terre โ the extraordinary place that helped inspire the feeling of Luca's seaside summer.
Our idea: a relaxed five-night family holiday for two adults and two children travelling from Ireland, with one convenient base.

No โ Portorosso is fictional. Disney and Pixar confirm that the film's town was imagined from the feel of Liguria's Cinque Terre. The production team researched and photographed real Italian towns; they did not film the animated characters here. Pixar's official background โ
Italy's official tourism portal identifies the real architecture and coastal atmosphere of Vernazza, Manarola, Corniglia, Riomaggiore, Monterosso and nearby Portovenere in its Luca-inspired trail. These are artistic influences rather than an exact map of scenes. Italian tourism's Luca route โ

One base in La Spezia keeps luggage moves down and makes it easy to reach all five villages by local train. If the family wants more beach time, also compare Monterosso or nearby Levanto. Pisa (PSA) is our holiday finder's gateway airport, but you must compare actual flight schedules and onward trains before booking.
Fly to Pisa or another practical gateway. Travel to La Spezia and settle into an apartment.
Riomaggiore and Manarola. Beautiful scenery, Italian lunch and gelato stops.
Vernazza and, if everyone has energy, Corniglia. No compulsory steep hikes.
Monterosso beach day: paddling, relaxed lunch and downtime.
Return to a favourite village, visit a viewpoint or try a seasonal boat trip.
Return to the airport with sensible connection time for kids and baggage.
Possibly in the right season, but these figures are a planning allowance, not a live price or bookable package. Summer holiday dates, checked baggage, apartment occupancy and beach costs could push the total higher.

The colours, boats, small squares and sparkling sea are the genuine attraction. For kids, we'd keep it simple: beaches, pasta, trains, a couple of villages a day and the freedom to stop when the gelato calls. Nothing here is a Disney-operated attraction and the village of Portorosso doesn't exist.
More screen-inspired journeys: Moana in French Polynesia, Frozen in Norway, and Encanto in Colombia.
