Prague with children

Castles, river views and storybook streets give Prague plenty of family appeal, especially over a long weekend.

The quick answer

Is Prague a good family city break?

Yes—if this matches your family: Families who enjoy dramatic architecture, boat trips and mixing famous sights with playful stops.

Family highlights

Four easy anchors

Charles Bridge

Go early for space, river views and an easier walk with children.

Prague Castle

Treat the courtyards, cathedral and viewpoints as a half-day rather than racing through every interior.

Petřín Hill

Combine gardens and views with the Mirror Maze; check current transport access before travelling.

Vltava boat trip

A short cruise provides sightseeing and a useful rest from Prague's hills and cobbles.

Keep it manageable

A simple three-day shape

  1. Day 1: Old Town Square, Astronomical Clock and Charles Bridge.
  2. Day 2: Prague Castle, Malá Strana and a gentle riverside evening.
  3. Day 3: Petřín area or Prague Zoo, then a short Vltava cruise.
Christmas markets · 2026 planning

A winter version of this break

Market dates: Prague City Tourism lists the Old Town Square market from 28 November 2026 to 6 January 2027.

Make Old Town Square the main festive stop. For a quieter second market, Náměstí Míru is listed from 20 November to 24 December 2026.

With children: Pair one market with one daytime sight rather than filling every hour with stalls. The Charles Bridge and castle area still need proper walking time.
